This could be one of the best letters I have ever read. This is dead on with what is wrong with our youth programs today. Great coaches in the future could become scarce real soon and that concerns me because of the involvement of "Little League Parents."
Athletics teach young men way to much about life for it to be turned into "all about me" - which is what is happening. The sad thing about all of it is the parents want the attention more than the athlete. Most youth want relationships with there teammates and to have a chance to win and be successful, where as parents take it to the next level now and want all the attention on them and "watch what my boy can do."
We are now lving in an "instant society" and "reality show life" where many young men and women think that is OK and we no longer have parents step and say - This is what it really takes to be successful and get what you want/deserve. Our youth population have no concept of - You will get what you work for - NOT be given what you want.
Until we start having parents be parents and not "friends" to there children then we are in big trouble as a nation.
